White Fang Skoolie
On December 3, 2018, Roan and Cyn bought a school bus with intensions to convert it into a skoolie (tiny home) over the winter. Its a flat nose short bus with 8 windows, 5.9L Cummins Diesel engine, and an Allison Transmission. With the flat nose there is more interior room and a better turning radius. She will have a cedar ceiling and small wood burning stove, we are going for a small cabin feel.
After shopping around for three months, we found AAA Bus Sales in Phoenix Arizona. Tony, the owner, is a skoolie man himself and the kind of guy that will spend 40 minutes to an hour each phone conversation talking your ear off about busses and conversions. I called him twice a week most of October and November trying to decide on the exact bus and size that would suit may needs and life style.
With all the different sports and activities we get up to, we needed slightly more storage and ‘garage’ space than most single females with a furry companion. Originally the plan was to look for a conventional nose 5 window diesel bus, like a BASE jumping girlfriend had. It seemed like enough space inside yet still keeping it short on the outside for maneuverability and parking.
Tony had one on his lot when we first started talking but soon acquired the 8 window flat nose that we ended up buying. We went back and forth about the pros and cons on the phone and I did my research. The 8 window had a Cummins and the 5 window had a Ford Powerstroke…. the Cummins is far better and easier to service! I was leaning towards the 8 window anyway but as soon as we arrived I was sold on it!
They are super dog friendly and Roan and I walked around the lot of busses checking everything out. We found our little bus and went in for a look. As soon as I opened the door, Roan jumped right in for a thorough inspection and settled into one of the seats upon inspection completion.
We went for a long ride in it, and he slept for most of the ride. He is pretty used to being on the road with me, and has gotten used to ‘home’ being where ever I am.
Looking forward to having our actual home where ever we park it, waiting for us to return from our adventures!
